Let’s Start at the Very Beginning

When I was little, one of my favorite places to spend a Saturday afternoon was at my Grandma Compagner’s house. After the baking was done and the dishes were washed, “rest time” was non-negotiable—always accompanied by The Sound of Music.

Julie Andrews was right. The beginning is indeed a very good place to start. It seemed only fitting for the first post of Letters to Nobody in Particular to be an explanation of why I decided to start this blog and what I intend to do with it.

Life with a dynamic disability is awful and wonderful. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, but I almost wish everyone could experience it. It’s hard to define what support looks like when most of my communication is one-way, with a response time that varies from instant to three weeks.

I believe deeply in connection and storytelling—but I also don’t want to add more noise to an already overloaded feed.

This blog is my tool to help process, articulate, and share my story with those who want to read. It’ll serve as a way to keep friends and family updated on my health and an invitation to engage in conversations that deepen existing connections.

I’m not committing to posting regularly—or even to one topic or format. I’ll be using ChatGPT when the brain fog is so thick that words get stuck somewhere between my brain and fingers.

And if nobody reads it, it’s still worth it—just for me. It’s so easy to forget the glimmers and wins and small moments. I’d like to keep remembering.

Cheers! 🥂

(And thanks in advance for reading—even if you’re nobody in particular.)
